Unions NT and affiliates participate in trade union training activity including in the areas of;
Unions also play an active role with Governments and training providers in identifying training opportunities for union members.
NT unions also participate in a number of Training Advisory Councils focusing on skill development for the NT workforce.
For many years, Unions NT has visited schools, vocational and higher education facilities throughout the NT providing information, advice and support on a range of issues including:
– The role and functions of unions;
– Employment related responsibilities;
– Wages and Conditions of employment;
– Influencing the training agenda;
– Occupational health and safety presentations;
– Human Rights;
– Human resource policy and practice, including recruitment, selection, probation, promotion, performance management and related matters;
– Grievance and dispute resolution processes;
– Government relations and influencing the legislative agenda;
– Public Policy;
– Political relationships between industy, unions and government;
– Advisory bodies to industry, government including education, training mining, workplace Health & Safety and workers’ compensation;
– Advice for student projects around work experience, transition from school to work;
– Industrial disputation;
– Contemporary and historical events involving unions.

Industry representatives, registered training organisations, schools and other organisations can contact the Industry Skills Advisory Council NT for advice about vocational education and industry training need, and skills shortages.
You can ask the advisory council to have a job listed as high demand and critical in the NT and work with it to contribute to the development and review of national training packages.
The Industry Skills Advisory Council NT represents all industry groups acrosss the Northern Terrirtory. It has replaced the following six industry training advisory councils: CHARTTES, HSTAC, MITAC, PITAC, SITAC and TEATAC.
The council is an autonomous, not-for-profit organisation. It works with industry, business, government and training providers on training for workers and the development of workforce skills.
